Regardless of whether you use your pistol a lot, if you own a pistol then you need to clean it, but some people may be wondering, how often should you clean your pistol? If you don't use it regularly, do you need to clean it? Below let’s see the answer.

1. Light cleaning after shooting

After you've gone to the range or practiced in another designated area, light cleaning is recommended when you're done or when you get home. It just means dipping a few tablets in a lubricant cleaner. Thread it through the holes and other easily accessible parts and you should be all set. When doing any cleaning, make sure to remove all ammo from your pistol first.

2. Do a deep clean several times a year

A more in-depth pistol cleaning should be done several times a year. Deep cleaning is a more complex and extensive cleaning but still requires maintaining your pistol and extending its lifespan. As for how to do this type of cleaning, the steps involved usually include: disassembling the pistol, using a hole brush with a cleaning stick that has been dipped in a solvent to clean the inside of the barrel, rotating the brush to remove any residue from previous use, using A patch holder attached to a brush goes deeper into the barrel, uses a solvent-soaked nylon brush to clean other parts of the pistol, and uses gun oil on any areas affected by excessive wear or friction. Finally, put your pistol back in its place. Do a final check to make sure it's ready to use safely.

3. Regularly oil your pistol

If you regularly do more intense range training or bullseye shooting, it's a good idea to oil your pistol at least once every 1-2 weeks. It's especially important to do this during the hotter, wetter months of the year to prevent damage from excess moisture. If you usually just hide or open your carry-on and don't fire the pistol, it should be fine to oil it every month.
