How To Avoid Being Shot?

If someone walks into your current building and starts shooting, what do you do to avoid being shot?

1. When you are not the immediate target

If you can, please leave the area. If you are in a situation where other people are shooting at each other or someone is shooting at someone who is not you, your main goal should be to get as far away as possible.

If you can't see your way out, then you'll want to take cover. Hide behind something that can block bullets. Stay behind cover, and if it's big enough, get down on the ground. Lying on the ground greatly reduces your chances of being shot.

Be as quiet as possible when dodging or running away. Breathe slowly, avoid crying, and don't talk or make phone calls to people nearby. Put your phone on silent if you can. If you want someone's help, be careful with texting from your phone.

Once you're in a relatively safe place, whether barricaded or at least under cover, just wait for help. This is the only thing you can do.

2. When you are the immediate target

If someone wants to shoot you specifically, you first assess the situation. If you are robbed, follow many of the instructions in Part 1 and obey all the other's requests. If you're fighting, your options are even more limited. If you are hunted, do your best to escape. If you're running fast or have bad knees, run straight from the attacker to the screen. The faster you run, the less times they can shoot. If you run at a slower pace and don't have knee problems, a twist run may be a better option. In this case, you may still get hit, but your chances of getting hit in the vital area may be lower. If possible, create visual distractions for attackers, such as spraying fire extinguishers.

You might not be able to buy yourself enough time to get out of the way completely, but getting yourself into hiding will at least help. Also, if you see them about to shoot, sneak into cover as much as possible. During a confrontation, look for objects that can be used as weapons. Especially those with sharp horns, are good weapons, but if you have access to something more powerful, it's best. If you have nowhere to go, nowhere to hide, and no other option, your best bet is to talk to the shooter. Try to empathize with him and try to ask him what he wants. Offer to help him and ask him why he is doing it. This can buy you time until help arrives.
