To Clean Your AR-15: Bore Snake Or Cleaning Rod?

Cleaning your firearm is one of the most important parts of firearm maintenance, especially if you have larger or more complex parts, such as an AR-15. There are two popular methods of cleaning the AR15: bore snakes and cleaning rods. So which cleaning method should you choose?

1. Cleaning rod:

If you need to thoroughly clean your firearm, using a cleaning rod is the preferred method, as it will clean the barrel more thoroughly than a drill snake. However, that doesn't mean that cleaning rods are the right choice for every cleaning situation. The gun cleaning rod can actually damage the muzzle or crown of a gun if you're not careful. This in turn would adversely affect the AR-15's accuracy to a large extent. In terms of cleaning power alone, using a cleaning rod does remove more dirt and foreign matter from the barrel than a bore snake can.

2. Bore snake

Bore snakes are generally the preferred method of spot cleaning as they are generally easier to use and have a much lesser risk of damaging the firearm, although of course the snake can be snapped while in the barrel, which can be a huge hassle. Bore snakes can also be a good solution for rifles that don't care about accuracy. They are also much easier and faster to use than cleaning rods.

As you can see the cleaning rods and bore snakes have their advantages and can be used, but in general, the cleaning rod is the best choice for precise cleaning of the AR-15. And the bore snakes are the best choice when you are outside, and if you want to save time and be more convenient, you can choose this method.
